Winter training year-end sale 25% off fuel through Dec 31 with WINTER25

Values & Story

Open Fuel was born out of our collective journeys with training, racing, fueling, and being consumers. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the countless nutrition products and their magic-ingredient hype. We started in Cape Town, South Africa, where there was a clear need for a local option that provided affordable fuel for performance. (We are now expanding into North America with Europe coming soon!)

We keep things simple. Focusing on what properly fuels athlete without over-complication. Our goal is to push the industry forward in sustainability, athlete + community support, flavor quality, and affordability.

People Over Profit

We make holistic business decisions to benefit our communities and strive to create access to performance and knowledge for those that are often deprioritized.

Environmentalism

We commit to protecting the planet by reducing impact, choosing regenerative practices.

Fun & Positivity

We create straightforward solutions that bring good vibes, feel easy to use and where the experience is greater than the sum of its parts.

Integrity

We share our practices and research openly and we are always open to learning to doing things differently.

Unconventional

We look at the world upside down to see if there is a better way forward.

Andrew (Founder)

I’ve been a cyclist and runner for as long as memory takes me back. Born and raised in Cape Town, I’m lucky to have the beautiful city and its mountain as my daily playground. In my 30-year history of training and racing nutrition is something I had never got spot-on. It wasn’t until I started ultra-distance running in 2020 that I learned how much it can contribute to success. Or lack thereof. Trial and error was a slow and treacherous strategy. It also showed how much better I could have done in past events.

Zach (Co-founder)

I technically found Open Fuel after Andrew had already "found" it, while I was in Cape Town for the UTCT. I was immediately struck by the bold, fun branding and quality of the product. Luckily, Andrew let me come onboard to expand Open Fuel to North America. My hope is for Open Fuel to lead by example in authenticity, limiting environmental-impact, and fostering inclusivity for athletes of all ambitions and backgrounds.
